Week 8
Thank you for all your great advice for our new students. I will have them read it next week. We read about astrology last week for our adverb clause worksheets. Astrology is one way to predict the future. Describe another way to predict the future or to predict good or bad luck in your culture. Do you believe in this?

Usually, in Korea, we use person’s birthday and time to predict their future. We call this
Way “Sa-Ju”. Each person has a uniqe personality according to their birthday and time.
In this method, time is very important. If you don’t know what time you were born, you can’t predict your future exactly. Like American, some Koreans believe this prediction, and someone does not. Many Korean female college students do this for fun. We have many cafés which is called “Sa-Ju” café. That is a kind of café, but there is someone who knows how to predict people’s future. We can ask something about our future what we want to know. However, in my opinion, they are likely to say only good things to us because they think if they say bad thing to us, we don’t want to go there again. People tend to want to hear only what is good to them. Nobody feel happy after they heard something bad to them. I have been to the “Sa-Ju” café before. Sometimes it might affect to my behavior, but usually I did that just for fun.
In taiwan, we have many of traditional chinese froms of fortune telling like divination with eight characters, face reading, palm reading, and find lucky names are still famous now, especially girls believe. I believe it, too. Because, it can seek something from the fortune telling to come out message about your life sometimes. It is not bad, because whoever said it is good or not, we can got this message to alert the own life become better.
As Bo-min said, "Sa-Ju" is the most popular method to predict person's future in Korea. In one of my paragraph writings, Korean traditional wedding, I mentioned about "Sa-Ju" already. I didn't use the exact word because I think it is too complex to explain and understand. Parents decide their son or daughter's marriage by how the couple's "Sa-Ju" is well matched. Furthermore, they decide wedding date by couple's "Sa-Ju". I didn't believe "Sa-Ju", however, I had gone "Sa-Ju" cafe with my friends before, just for fun. I think it is not good to believe these things about your future. I believe that person's future is made by themselves. It's up to their effort.
In Korea, there's so many different type of prediction. For example, Sa-Ju is the famouse one, and Shin-Jum, and so on. Many Korean people believe superstitions because that is kind of legacy from our ancestors. If the weather was a drought and farming wasn't good, they call to a shaman, and they did exorcise. After that, they believe getting better. Suprisingly, after they did exorcise, then pouring rain. Most of people think this is nonsense, but in the history books are describe this situations.
I wasn't believe superstitions, but I had chance to do 'Sa-Ju', and amazingly, they knew about my past experience, and they predicted my future, even though i didn't say anything to them. It was so terrific. After that, I believe 'Sa-Ju'.
In Viet Nam, there are something that is considered supposition.On the Tet holiday, you are not allowed to do something to avoid bad luck. You don't sweep the floor on the first three days of the Tet. If you sweep the floor on those days, you will meet bad things about money such as you will not have much money in that year. When you take picture, there are 3 people in the picture; it's bad luck because the middle person can died. Therefore, in my country, people don't like to take picture with 3 people. I think we should believe ourselves more than believing supposition. However, i think we should avoid something that is considered not good because no one want bad luck come to them.
In Vietnam, people sometimes visit the fortune tellers to ask about their future. There are many kinds of fortune telling, such as palm reading, cards reading, face reading, Tu Vi (similar to Horoscope), Feng Shui…Palm reading is the most common way of predicting the future in my country. A good fortune teller can see visitors’ life in the past and in the future through visitors’ palm. There are three main lines in human hands, such as the love line, the career line, the life line, and many minor lines. The more the main lines are strong, the more good future you will have. In addition, the way they cut each other can predict the bad or good luck will happen in the next days. Furthermore, if one’s palms have black dots, maybe he or she cannot keep his or her money. If your palms have red dot, you might be a rich person. Because human palm can show human future, we have a statement that is “your future is in your hands.”
In the fact of that, some good fortune teller can tell exactly what have happened in your past. Sometimes they suppose that some things bad or good will happened in your future. These assumptions can help you to avoid much bad luck in your life. Even though I usually go to visit the fortune teller, I do not believe them totally. The lines in human palm will change, and human future will, too. I want to visit the fortune tellers just for fun and listen about the good. I have never minded their bad guess.
In China, there are many kind of prediction. However, I just remmander one of them.We call chiromancy. For example, there are many creases in hand. From the creases we can know the future, but I don't know how to observe it.
Our ancestry devised a lot of way to predict the future in Chinese five thousand history. Such as you put down a word in a piece of paper without consider anything, and the fortune teller will tell you about your future recently. It based on the what word did you write, and seprated the word to become few parts, each part has different meaning. I am not really sure about believe or not, but i believe better to be sure than sorry.
Truly,astrology is affect to people who worry about their future,such as money, love,future,etc., so they usually go to see a fortune teller.For me,I used to many times to go there because I really wondered about my future. When I went there, I choose a TAROT card. Actually, it was originate from Europe. There are twenty two cards and choose three cards that will tell about my future, love, and money. If I choose card, it will explain what is good or bad luck. If I got a bad luck, I tried to avoid it and found a solution.Other wise, If I got a good luck,it just makes me happy and remeberable. Although I don't believe prediction, sometimes it is helpful for realeasing my stress.
In Korea,usually some people believe prediction of their life.Bomin and stella said it called "Sa-ju".Some Korean trust it and they deside everything to ask fortuneteller, even date of moving. I used to check my zodiac. It is just for fun. When I was high school student, my friend told fortune from tarot card. It was right, but it was really general to our life. I think if I seriously believe that it is poison of my life.Nobody don't know future, if somebody know that it makes boring our life.
In Taiwan, we use our birthday to predict our future. Some people believe that, especially old people. When people are marriage, they like using their birthday to predict their future. Furthermore, some people moved house, they like see the date is good or bad. For me, I believe, but I do not totally believe, because it is our tradition. We could not deny many people do not bellow this rule and then happened many bad things.
In my country,Korea,elderly korean people believe astrology a lot. Bomin said about Korean astrology 'Sa-ju' and we watch our palm-print. Sometimes it is powerful. Before I and my girl/boyfriend get married, our parents take this superstition about our marital harmony. If we get a bad divination sign, some parents disagree our marry. It`s terrible. I heard that astrology can know past almost 99% but it can know future less than only 40%.
This mean we can change our future by ourselves. Therfore, I think astrology can pridict futuer of people who believe this way.
Predicting future has been a popular superstitious tradition in almost Asia countries includes my country, Vietnam. It's not only from fortune tellers, but also from any person. When a baby was born, people in family started predict his future by observing on all parts in his/her body, especially on his face such as forehead, eyes, nose, mouth, etc. For example, if one's nostrils are open he couldn't keep money, that a bad thing. Or they can base on year, day and time of birth to predict one's future generally.
Even though fortune telling is prohibited in my country, many people still believes in predicting future, so it became a popular job in social. People trust prediction to get luck in all important events: building house, marriage, opening business, burying a dead person. Some people extremely trust in fortune telling, they usually meet fortune teller to listen to their future or ask his/her about their problems. Professional fortune tellers often combine cards and year of birth, some of them said that they link with certain dead person's soul to predict the future. In my opinion, fortune telling likes superstition than simple prediction because your future is made by yourself and it change all the time in your life. If they can know your past, it's just random concurrence it could be right with this person but wrong with other person. When I was in high school, I went with my friend who wanted to meet fortune teller. Even though I didn’t make any future prediction, I recognized that was a stupid thing to waste money and time. I have never believed in fortune telling, it don’t effect to my decisions at all.
